Mansfield Swimmers Make Their Mark at Regionals
Our swimmers put in some outstanding performances during the first weekend of the Regional Championships held at Moorways, Derby.
Across two days of fierce competition, Max, Layla, Lewes and Georgia proudly represented MSC on the regional stage, achieving PBs, finals, medals and some thrilling near-podium finishes.
Max (11/12 years) showed real class in the sprints, swimming a brilliant 50m Freestyle to finish 3rd in his heat and 3rd in the final, setting PBs in both swims. A fantastic performance in a very competitive field!
Layla (11/12 years) competed impressively across two events in her two year age group. On Saturday, she swam the 100m Breaststroke, finishing 24th. On Sunday, she swam superbly in the 50m Breaststroke, finishing 19th and setting a half-second PB.
Lewes (17/over) had a strong weekend across several events. On Saturday, he placed 14th in the 200m Backstroke with a half-second PB, and 12th in the 100m Freestyle, just shy of his PB. On Sunday, he lit up the pool in the 50m Freestyle, qualifying 6th from the heats. In an electrifying final, Lewes stepped up to finish an agonizing 4th, narrowly missing bronze by just 0.04 seconds, clocking a rapid PB time of 24.56.
Georgia (13 years) was kept busy with an action packed schedule. On Saturday, she qualified for the finals in both her events — 50m Freestyle and 100m Breaststroke — finishing 8th in the 50 Free final and 7th in the 100 Breast final, with a PB in the 100 Breast heats. On Sunday, Georgia continued her strong form, finishing 13th in the 50m Breaststroke and 9th in the 100m Freestyle, narrowly missing a place in the final.
It was a fantastic weekend of racing and an excellent experience for our swimmers, who continue to show great potential and determination at a high level of competition.
Well done to Max, Layla, Lewes, and Georgia — and thank you to our coaches and supporters for helping make it happen!
