Derby & Notts Junior League Round 1 Success
Mansfield Swimming Club made a fantastic start to their 2026 Derby & Notts Junior League campaign with an excellent team performance in Round 1 at Hucknall on 28 March. The squad delivered strong swims across all age groups, securing valuable points throughout the evening and finishing in a superb second place overall with 175 points.
This year’s league consists of three rounds, with Round 2 also taking place in Hucknall on 9 May. Round 1 also saw three swimmers make their league debuts for Mansfield with Lois, Maya and Harvey all impressing!
Relay Speed!
The night opened with a series of fast and competitive relays, setting the tone for a determined team effort. Mansfield’s relay teams consistently placed inside the top three. The 12 and Under Medley Relay team of Max, Lois, Jacob and Nyla secured second place, as did the 9yrs Freestyle Relay team of Albert, Harvey, Ivy and Isabelle. The 10 and Under Medley Relay team of Jenson, Amelia, Fox and Henry also finished second, while the 11 and Under Freestyle Relay team of Harry, Sophie, Noah and Evie Mae matched that result with another strong swim.
One of the standout moments of the evening came from the 10 and Under Freestyle Relay team, where Fox, Henry, Jenson and Lily‑Rose produced a brilliant performance to take first place. The 11 and Under Medley Relay team of Maya, Harry, Noah and Evie Mae added another second place to the tally. At the end of the night the final Cannon Relay saw Mansfield finish second, securing important points to close the round.
Individual Racing was fast and furious
Across the individual events, Mansfield swimmers produced a wave of strong swims, personal bests and top‑three finishes.
In the 9yrs age group, Isabelle won the 25 Free and added a second place in the 25 Fly. Ivy claimed first place in the 25 Back and second in the 25 Breast, delivering a very consistent set of swims. Harvey achieved two new personal bests in the 25 Free and 25 Back on his league debut, while Albert raced hard across all three of his events, including a fourth place in the 25 Breast.
The 10 and Under swimmers also delivered superb performances. Fox had an outstanding night, winning both the 50 Back and 50 Fly, and contributing to two relay victories. Amelia won the 50 Breast with a strong and controlled swim. Jenson placed third in the 50 Breast and raced bravely in the 50 Fly, while Henry swam consistently across all his events, including a fourth place in the 50 Back.
In the 11 and Under category, Maya made a superb debut, winning the 50 Back and following it with another first place in the 50 Free. Harry delivered strong swims across all events, including third in the 50 Back and second in the 50 Free. Noah secured second place in both the 50 Fly and 50 Breast, contributing valuable points, while Evie Mae continued her excellent form with top‑three relay splits and a solid third place in the 50 Breast. Sophie raced well in both her events, including a fourth place in the 50 Fly.
The 12 and Under swimmers rounded off the evening with more strong performances. Lois made a confident debut, finishing second in the 50 Fly and contributing strongly in both relays. Nyla placed third in the 50 Free and swam well in her relay events. Max and Jacob both delivered determined swims across their races, including Max’s fifth place in the 50 Free.

A Great Start to the League
With 18 individual top‑three finishes, 31 relay placings and a strong second‑place team finish, Mansfield Swim Club can be extremely proud of their Round 1 performance. The swimmers showed teamwork, resilience and excellent racing skills throughout the night. The club now looks ahead to Round 2 on 9 May, where they will aim to build on this strong start and continue their push for a place in the league final.
